Born in Shanghai (1999) and currently based in Nantes, France.
With DNSP and DNSEP degrees from Écoles Supérieure de Beaux-art Nantes and studied under Prof. Daniel Roth for exchange at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe in Germany.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Jie Zhou explores the relationship between collective and personal memory. Through processes of transmission, adaptation, and erasure, she explores how images evolve, questioning what remains of their power as they are reshaped and re-contextualized.
Her practice engages with internet culture, semiotics, and the appropriation of artworks, visually transforms and engages with vague/low-quality images, with texts and different compositions. Working across various forms of media, she pushes the boundaries of painting and image making, challenging traditional perceptions of social values and the authenticity of art.
